President, Dr. Charles Gilmore Dr. Charles Gilmore, President of the Hot Springs Concert Band, writes "Music is one of the great joys of my life. As a member of the percussion section, Charles began with the New Horizons Band in his study of percussion and joined the Concert Band in 2005. He is retired from 35 years in ministry as a Lutheran pastor. He and his wife, Marcia (who plays flute in the band) are parents of two adult children who also are musicians. Charles was elected President of the band in June 2010. |
Vice-President, Nora Cole Nora Cole was born in Hot Springs, raised in Hope, and attended college in Tulsa, OK, obtaining a BA with majors in English literature and telecommunications. For the next 20 years, she lived in Tulsa; on Thanksgiving 1998, she moved back to her "heart's home" of Arkansas. Six months later, after a 22-year hiatus from playing, she was loaned a trombone and has been playing ever since. Working nights as a medical transcriptionist, she has the freedom to be active in concert band, the Village Big Band, as well as the Hot Springs Baptist Church orchestra. In 2006, she met Ron Hullet, who was joining the concert band as a trombone player. Her life is blessed, having come full circle to home, family, music, and friends. And that trombone player?--they married in April 2009. |
Treasurer, Howard Olson Howard Olson moved to Hot Springs Village from Madison, WI in August 2005. Howard's career spanned over 40 years in the printing industry, and in 1985 he started his own business forms company called Madison Forms. Corp. In 2003 the business was doing well and he was able to resume his musical interests, and he responded to an article about New Horizons Band. It was over 40 years, but he again picked up a saxophone and spent much of his spare time re-learning the instrument. Howard plays with the Village Big Band, the Concert Band, and the Village Saxophone Quartet. In the fall of 2007, he began accompanying the Community of Joy Lutheran Church choir. "I have a lot of rust and it's not dropping off as fast as I would like, but it is good to be back playing the sax and the piano." |
Secretary, Gendy McMillen Gendy McMillen,a clinical chemist for 30 years, raised five children. Upon retiring from Abbott Laboratories, she moved to the Hot Springs area and joined the New Horizons Band in the fall of 2001. She has been a member of the Hot Springs Concert Band since the spring of 2003. |
Member, Jerry Jamrich Jerry Jamrich moved to Hot Springs Village in 2005 from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. He has had a varied musical career playing in concert bands and small combos from Chicago to California. Besides the Hot Springs Concert band, Jerry currently plays in the Village Big Band, the Village Polka Dots and the Village Noteables. |
Member, David Pierce David Pierce moved to Hot Springs in July of 1999, after living in Dallas/Ft. Worth for 10 years. He transferred with UPS to the Hot Springs Hub. He has been with the Hot Springs Concert Band since June, 2004, where he plays French Horn. He has the honor of playing with his mentor, Julian Herring, who taught him how to play the French Horn more than 35 years ago. David plays Principal, 2nd and 3rd horn with the Concert Band. He also plays Principal French Horn with the Hot Springs Baptist Church Orchestra. |
Member, David Smith David Smith moved to Hot Springs with his wife, Dianna, in 1999 and began playing euphonium in the HSCB in 2003. He was privileged to have Ed Carroll as a mentor during the first few years in the band, which helped get him back up to speed after a 30-year hiatus from playing. He also played in a euphonium trio with Mr. Carroll and Jeff Goslee. David worked as a pastor for over 20 years before entering the mental health field. He is now a licensed therapist and works with older adults in an intensive outpatient program affiliated with one of the local hospitals. |
