A message from the Hot Springs Concert Band...The Hot Springs Concert Band (HSCB) got off to a good start to open its 50th year with a great winter concert at the Woodlands Auditorium in Hot Springs Village on Thursday, February 27. The band played to an enthusiastic and responsive audience who enjoyed not only the music but the humor and storytelling of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Jim Lloyd. From the first note of “The Star-Spangled Banner” to the last note of “Gee, Officer Krupke,” the band kept its audience engaged in the quality music it’s been accustomed to for half a century. From the high school musicians to 90-years-young Ruth Hamm, everyone in the band enjoyed making music for friends and neighbors of the Village and the greater Hot Springs area. The band is looking forward to its next concert on May 4 as well as all the remaining concerts of 2025. Mr. Lloyd is arranging for every concert to include a selection (or two) from key concerts from the past 50 years, so there will be some nostalgia to enjoy along with some new music. This year of celebration will culminate with the band’s 50th anniversary concert on Sunday, October 12, at 3 p.m. at the Woodlands Auditorium in Hot Springs Village. Please visit the other sections of the band website to learn more about the band, its current schedule, its rich history and awards, and photos from past concerts. And we are now regularly including more in-depth stories about some of our veteran members. The section titled Profiles in Life & Music is dedicated to these very special people who have a long history of playing music in the band and in their previous lives. You will enjoy and appreciate the talent and dedication that has been invested into the band by these special people over many years. The latest entries are Ruth Hamm and Janet Jenkins, two special ladies with their own interesting life stories. These ladies, and others who have been featured in this section, represent so much of what the Hot Springs Concert Band is all about. You will enjoy reading their stories and appreciate them even more after doing so. And, while you’re at it, go ahead and read about the other band members previously included. None of them are very long in words, but they are long in history and substance. |
